How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It's a bit tricky to test because there are several pins on the connector and each has its own functions. 2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or injectors aren't firing at all. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine without sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero Ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID without success. The replacement key for audi a4 car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature of that is -49c even after unplugging it. 3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor.
